About Us
ZENsory Zone was founded by me Samantha Kunz. Building ZENsory zone was a dream that was a culmination of needing to meet my own sensory needs and wanting to offer the community the same opportunity. It was not until adulthood I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder but that does not mean I did not struggle with the symptoms that came along with ADHD growing up. I was always seen as the hyper kid, the kid who melted down frequently which we now know as over or under stimulation. I struggled at home, school, and in social settings yet I shined in many other ways.
Despite my ability to regulate in the “real world” I put myself through college and accepted a job as a Support Coordinator with Wayne county where I served adults and children with intellectual disabilities and autism. I served as a Support’s Coordinator for two years before transitioning to Care For People Plus, Inc. as the Director for Wayne, Pike, and Luzurne Counties. We provide home and community-based supports for individuals with ID and Autism. I fell in love with my career choice and found that being able to advocate for individuals was a passion of mine. I realized quickly that I was not alone in my struggles with ADHD. There were others just like me, and together we could create a world that was sensory inclusive. I knew my ADHD gave me abilities like hyper-focus, passion, empathy, drive, out-of-the box thinking and other awesome traits but it was hard to use them in an environment that was not built for neurodivergent people.
As my struggles with being able to stay focused, regulate my emotions, and receive sensory input became overwhelming I started doing research on alternative therapies and I found sensory stimulation and light therapy. I started using these strategies and noticed huge improvements in my focus, my sleep patterns, my communication skills, and my emotional being. Sensory stimulation, light therapy and mindfulness gave me my life back. I was able to not only envision my dreams but I was able to begin building them. These alternative therapies changed my life and I began to embrace my superpowers that came along with being a neurodiverse individual. I believe our children and adults deserve the same opportunities and that is why ZENsory Zone was created.
Zensory Zone is a worry-free environment as all children are accepted.
This social setting is sensory friendly and finally gives our children and adults the opportunity to safely explore and engage their senses. Stimming is welcomed and encouraged, getting our wiggles out is necessary! I have also created a calming sensory light room that is known to calm children and adults. Being calm induces a stillness that allows us to connect with our hearts, regroup, and refocus on our needs. I can’t wait for you to experience all that ZENsory Zone has to offer and most importantly see the difference this safe space can make in our lives and the lives of our children. We are a community, we are one.
